Chatham Star Tribune online Spotlights PCCA New Coordinator

Chatham, Va.- The Chatham Star Tribune- Hendrix named coordinator of Martinsville Community Action Program

"Arnold Hendrix has been hired as coordinator of Pittsylvania County Community Action's Southside Community Action Program in Martinsville.  As coordinator, Hendrix will oversee the SCAP office and its programs and work to enhance the organization's profile in the community."

Virginians Fighting Poverty with Federal Recovery Act

Richmond, VA- Over 800,000  Virginians living on the edge of poverty are being kept afloat with the help from the Federal Recovery Act, according to a new study released today by the Center on Budget and Policy Poriorities (CBPP) in Washington, D.C.

Gov. Kaine Announces ARRA Funding for Expansion of Early Head Start

Richmond- Governor Kaine today announced that Virginia will received $9.5 million in Early Head Start Expansion Funds from the American Reinvenstment and Recovery Act (ARRA).   Among the recipients were Community Action Agencies Rooftop of Virginia, Clinch Valley, and STEP, Inc.

NY Times/CBS News Poll Reveals Trauma of Joblessness

From a New York Times article by Michael Luo and Megan Thee-Brenan:

"More than half of the nation's unemployed workers have borrowed money from friends or relatives since losing their jobs.  An equal number have cut back on doctor visits or medical treatments because they are out of work."
