Madison County Senior Homeowners Receive Help With Weatherization And Fuel Oil Cost

Thanks to a grant from The Community Awareness of Rappahannock Electric Charity, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) awarded to Skyline Community Action Program (C.A.P.) according to Kim Frye -Smith Executive Director at Skyline Community Action Program in Madison. Skyline Community Action Program (CAP) operates services and programs like this for low to moderate income individuals and families in Madison, Orange and Greene County.

    NGA Center Awards $12,000 in Grants to States and Territories to Help Low-Income Children and Families

    To help reduce the number of children living in poverty and improve the economic outcomes of disadvantaged families, the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) today awarded $12,000 grants to 10 states to convene Governors Summits on Poverty and Economic Opportunity: Arizona, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, Virgin Islands and Wisconsin.

    Governor Warner Speaks At TAP Annual Luncheon

    On Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Governor Warner was the keynote speaker for TAP. He gave a non-political speech about the challenges and opportunities facing non-profit organizations in the next decade. It was a very thoughtful analysis of the strengths of non-profits as well as possibilities for growth and collaboration with foundations and government. It is well worth your reading and thinking about as VACAP begins to prepare for the VACAP Retreat in October. The Governor's actual remarks did not follow this text exactly, but the themes are the ones that he focused on in his speech.

    New Study: Virginia's Workers are 'Feeling the Pinch'

    The Commonwealth Institute has released an excellent report called "Feeling the Pinch: The State of Working Virginia". The Commonwealth Institute does analysis of public policy issues with a particular focus on the impact on low and moderate income people. The "Employee Benefits" section and the "Regional Breakdown" seem particularly useful.
