The Governor's Budget for 2009-2010 and Community Action Agencies

There are seven major actions in the Governor’s Budget, announced this morning, which affect Community Action Agencies as VACAP understands them.

  1. No additional dollars are provided for CAA expansion in 2009 or 2010.
  2. VACAP's EITC Initiative is provided $218,500 the first year and $218,500 the second year in General Funds.
  3. $637,500 in TANF the first year and $637,500 in General Funds in the second year are provided for Centers for Employment and Training
  4. Funds provided to Tri-county CAA and People, Inc.
  5. Funding for Southeast RCAP in DHCD is reduced by five percent.
  6. $900,000 the first year and $1 million in the second year is provided from the General Fund for Project Discovery
  7. Additional funds are provided in the public safety budget for prisoner re-entry

Governor Kaine Announces Expansion of Health Care Access

Governor Timothy M. Kaine stood with health care advocates and members of the Health Reform Commission to announce his proposal to expand access to health care for the uninsured. The Governor’s proposed budget will include funding to increase women’s access to critical preventive care, expand the health care safety net for the uninsured, and launch a pilot initiative to provide insurance to more working families...

Governor Kaine Announces Improvements to Child Services

Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced improvements proposed in his budget to services for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable children, including more funding for foster care and adoption efforts and an initiative to serve children in the communities where they live. The proposal also includes funds to collect data about how well children are served through the Comprehensive Services Act (CSA), giving localities a stronger tool to provide effective services in the most appropriate settings...

Southeast RCAP Seeking a Vice President and Deputy Chief Executive Officer

The Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project, Inc. (Southeast RCAP), located in Roanoke, Virginia is currently seeking a Vice President and Deputy Chief Executive Officer to assist the President and CEO in guiding the agency and its activities. The agency is governed by a Board of Directors made up of representatives of communities throughout the Southeastern Region of the United States. Southeast RCAP provides services which help build the capacities of rural communities to assess and solve water and wastewater problems. Other services include a wide range of community development problems.
