Public News Service Highlights Poverty Task Force Report

January 15, 2010- Richmond VA

"Virginia has a new 'to do' list when it comes to reducing poverty.  A report from Virginia's Poverty Reduction Task Force provides a new snapshot of poverty in the state.  It also identifies four primary goals to increase economic stability for the 750,000 Virginians living in poverty."

Waynesboro- (from the newsleader.com) Group Details Local Benefits of Federal Stimulus Spending

Leaders from the Community Action Partnership of Staunton, Augusta and Waynesboro gave a briefing Monday to City Council of its progress of doling out thousands to local and regionial organizations.   Carol Blair, Waynesboro director of the office on youth, detailed the list of 11 groups that will receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds through the regional partnership.

STEP Inc. Receives ARRA Funds to Aid Homeless

From DanRiver.com- Federal Stimulus to Help Danville Area Homeless

Danville and Pittsylvania County will get extra help in fighting homelessness this year.

Support To Eliminate Poverty Inc. received an allocation of more than $545,000 in grant funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to a news release from Gov. Timothy M. Kaine’s office.

Gov. Kaine Announces ARRA Funds for Children with Disabilities

RICHMOND--Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has appropriated significant funding for Virginia's Early Intervention Program under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The U.S. Department of Education awarded more than $10 million for Virginia under the Part C Grants for Infants and Families program. These awards will be in addition to the regular fiscal year 2009 grants for infants and toddlers that were made on July 1, 2009.
