New River Community Action Backpack Project

Southwest Virginia Today- Floyd, Va.-  Editor Wanda Combs, in an online column, writes:

"TIckets are on sale now for Empty Bowls Sunday, March 21, in the community room of the Jacksonville Center for the Arts in Floyd.  Proceeds from the fundraiser go to support New River Community Action's Backpack Project in Floyd County Schools."

People Incorporated and Funds for Housing Rehabilitation

Shenandoah Valley-Herald- Aimee Baldwin writes:

"Every little bit helps and the town of Mount Jackson is hoping to receive federal funding to improve homes in their community.  About 15 single-family residences could benefit from a Community Development Block Grant application that the town is currently working on with the help of People Incorporated."

The STOP Organization Moving to New Offices

Norfolk, Va.- The Virginian-Pilot online- Harry Minium writes that a new office building in downtown Norfolk will house STOP's offices:

"The Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project, an anti-poverty agency funded largely with government money, would consolidate all of its offices, including its job-training facilities, into 100,000 square feet in the proposed office building."

Program Helps Dan River Region Residents Get Medicine

Danville Register and Bee-McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via Comtex-

"A new program gives hope to local residents choosing between putting food on the table or buying life-sustaining prescription drugs.  Pittsylvania County Community Inc.'s Pharmacy Connection, with $67,700 in federal stimulus funding, partners with local pharmacies to help low-income and uninsured residents  get long term medicine...."

New River Community Action Needs Volunteers for Move

Southwest Virginia Today- Wytheville VA- Community help is being requested to help move New River Community Action's office on Saturday.  A leaky roof has made it necessary to move programs and other meetings out of the building.
